Types of Hearing Loss
-
Sensorineural Hearing Loss
When sound reaches our inner ears, tiny hair like cells detect the sound and trigger the auditory nerve to send a message to the brain that you heard a sound. Damage to the hair cells due to age, sound or disease can result in sensorineural hearing loss.
-
Conductive Hearing Loss
A conductive hearing loss occurs when sounds cannot efficiently pass through the outer and middle ear. This can be due to ear wax build up, damage to the ear drum, ear infections, or pathology to the bones of the middle ear. Any of these challenges can result in conductive hearing loss.
-
Mixed Hearing Loss
Mixed hearing loss can result from a problem with the outer or middle part of the ear and inner part of the ear resulting in hearing loss.
